The Davco Portal Crane Trolley Rail Grooming Machine was designed as a safe, consistent and quick method of eliminating the inconsistencies in portal crane rails. Effective rail grooming reduces vibrations that accelerate metal fatigue and give an increasingly rougher ride to the operator of the portal crane.

• Rails can be machined smooth for considerably less than the cost of replacement rails.

• Less vibration contributes to extended life of other crane components.
  In most cases the grooming process can be safely completed several times extending the life of the rails significantly.

• The components of the grooming machine are designed to be lifted out of the way without being totally removed. This allows the crane to become operational even when rails are only partly machined.

Social Impacts

• Eliminating cab vibration is ergonomically sensible. Overhead crane operators are exposed to an occupational vibration called Whole Body Vibration (WBV). WBV enters the body mainly through the spine resulting in potential chronic health issues. Machined rails can greatly reduce or eliminate WBV by providing a smooth ride for the operator.

• Three years after grooming a set of rails for Weyerhaeuser Canada in Grande Prairie the customer remains greatly satisfied with the quality of the original job, the work hardness that returned to the surface and the lack of vibrations in the ride of the crane.
